Nature walk

A guided walk through riverine forest, bushland, and the conservancy's quiet trails.

A vehicle covers ground. A walk lets the conservancy come to you in pieces: a hoof print in damp soil, a turaco calling from the riverine canopy, the smell of dust after a giraffe has passed. On Sangare Conservancy, walking is with a guide only — not as a restriction, but as the way this 4,250-acre wilderness is meant to be read.

Trails thread three river valleys, bushland, and the open plains around the dam. Along the Amboni you move in shade, with the chance of bushbuck, monkey, and a sudden freeze when buffalo are near. Out on the ridges the view opens toward Mount Kenya and the Aberdares. Leopard, lion, and a few resident elephant use this land; the guide knows when to pause and when to turn aside.

We like these walks at first light, when the grass is still wet, or in the late afternoon before sundowners. No special fitness is required — only decent shoes and curiosity. Ask at reception the evening before, and we will match you with a guide and a route that fits how far you want to go.
